Target was one of the real pioneers in retail broadcast advertising. And, while no one knows the first Target TV spot, one of the early authenticated Target TV spot was starting number 1001, dated 9/16/1976 titled “Sound Sale (Records)”. Today the Target numbering system is in the 13,000’s.
In the decades since, Target has remained a leader in quality, innovation and, frankly, quantity. Even in the and 80’s it was getting tough to keep track of it all, much less share Target’s outstanding creativity internally or externally.
In the mid-90’s Target Broadcast created the Target Media Library (TML) as an accessible and comprehensive archive of Target TV spots. Built on the new technology (DVD), high video quality spots began to be distributed to key Target employees organized by year and category. Better, but not good enough. A huge leap in 2005 created the TML Website. TML brought this always current resource to a much wider Target audience.
TML then reached out further. In addition to TV spots in the library from the 1970's to the present day, TML now supports Internet, Channel Red, Radio, Mobile, You Tube, Cinema, Redcast, social media and more. An email Newsletter is sent alerting members when new spots or other assets have been posted on TML.
Searchable by keyword, category, date range, media, medium and more; the library serves as a reference tool for Target team members when reviewing, discussing and planning Target marketing and advertising. Production companies and their directors can review Target spots and creative as we engage them in new work or us. They can get a sense of Target style, look and feel over the wide range categories that Target produces. It allows the Target team to share the company's image and message with vendors and partners in meetings and presentations.
TML has now evolved into a powerful productivity tool for Target Broadcast producers. The production and tracking of all creative assets from TV spots to Internet radio and smart phones are managed through TML. Production ID, or QDAF numbers are assigned by TML to every creative asset produced and synced with outside vendors and partners to be sure everything current, and all of us are on the same page. We hope you to will find TML helpful and find imaginative uses for TML in your work or curiosity.
TML and its content are intended for invited Target employees, vendors and partners use only. Any outside distribution or public exhibition of the spots or information contained in this system is strictly prohibited.
